Yellow Emperor Snapper
(Diploprion bifasciatus)
Add Soapfish to well established aquariums with plenty of caves, overhangs and ledges for hiding. They will consume any fish or invertebrate they can fit in their mouths but generally leave coral alone. Provide a diet rich in meaty based foods fed once daily. Shy and may not readily accept prepared foods when first added to the aquarium. Try feeding enriched live adult Brine, Glass/Grass Shrimp or Black Worms to entice a feeding response. Soapfish can release a toxin call grammistin when threatenedd or die that looks like soap.
Barred Soapfish are also sometimes known as Two Banded Soapfish. Rarely seen in the aquarium trade. Barred Soapfish can vary in color from yellow to black, however are generally yellow with a vertical dark thick mid body stripe and another one through its eye. Barred Soapfish can grow to almost 10".
We recommend a minimum aquarium size of 100 gallons or larger for this species.
