Naso Tang w/Steamer
(Naso lituratus)
Naso Tangs also known as Surgeonfish or Unicornfish. Care will need to be taken when handling Naso Tangs as they have very sharp spines or scalpels at the base of their tails, some species will also have a unicorn like appendage on their head, avoid using nets when handling. Naso Tangs should be added to well established aquariums with plenty of open room to swim. Plenty of rock work should be provided for grazing and hiding. Tank size should also be considered before purchasing as the adult Naso Tangs can become quite large. A diet of algae based foods along with Tang preperations should be provided.
The Naso Tang are also known as the Lipstick or Orange Spine Naso Tang. Somewhat commonly seen in the aquarium trade. The Naso Tangs are quite lovely with a pale gray to tan body color, yellow to orange lips, the caudal peduncle is white and yellow, small amount of yellow above its eyes an the males will have beautiful long streamers that are not seen on females. They can grow to a little over 16".
We recommend a minimum aquarium size of 180 gallons or larger for this species.
