Bluespine Unicorn Tang, Juvenile
(Naso unicornis)
Naso Tangs also known as Surgeonfish or Unicornfish. Care will need to be taken when handling Naso Tangs as they have very sharp spines or scalpels at the base of their tails, some species will also have a unicorn like appendage on their head, avoid using nets when handling. Naso Tangs should be added to well established aquariums with plenty of open room to swim. Plenty of rock work should be provided for grazing and hiding. Tank size should also be considered before purchasing as the adult Naso Tangs can become quite large. A diet of algae based foods along with Tang preperations should be provided.
The Bluespine Unicorn Tang are also known as the Bluespine Unicorn. Occasionally seen in the aquarium trade. The Bluespine Unicorn Tangs forheads are hornlike and the caudal peduncle is highlighted in blue against a light gray to blue body color. They can grow to a little over 28".
We recommend a minimum aquarium size of 300 gallons or larger for this species.
