Indo Pacific Tarpon

Provide a very large aquarium with plenty of rockwork, cracks, crevices, caves and wide open swim areas. Tarpon are not reef safe and will eat any fish or invertebrate they can fit in their mouth. Provide a diet of meaty based foods three times a day. Tarpon may not eat prepared foods when first acclimated, try feeding enriched live adult Brine, Glass/Grass Shrimp or Black Worms. Keep only one per aquarium and provide a tight fitting lid as they may jump. They are capable of living in Freshwater, Brackish as well as Saltwater. Tarpon are long living fish with some living up to 44 years.
Indo Pacific Tarpon is also known as the Oxeye tarpon. In the aquarium trade, Indo-Pacific tarpons are not commonly seen due to their large size and specific requirements for their captive care. Indo-Pacific tarpons have a sleek and elongated body with an olive green color on its back and a silvery coloration and large scales. They have a protruding lower jaw and a deeply forked tail fin. They can grow up to 39 inches in length however only about 20 inches if inhabiting freshwater.
We recommend a minimum aquarium size of 500 gallons or larger for this species.
