Chinese Trumpetfish
(Aulostomus chinensis)
Trumpetfish should be added to very large well established aquariums. They grow to large sizes careful planning will need to be done before adding to the home aquarium. Provide plenty of rockwork, cracks, crevice. Trumpetfish also do very well with Gorgonians, Sea Whips and Seagrasses. They will hover vertically camouflaging themselves waiting to ambush prey. They are weak swimmers requiring low water flow. Trumpetfish are opportunistic feeders and will consume small fish and benthic crustaceans. Provide a diet rich in meaty based foods fed multiple times daily.
Chinese Trumpetfish are also sometimes known simply as the Pacific Trumpetfish. Not often seen in the aquarium trade. Chinese Trumpetfish coloration can be variable but are usually a brown to gray color with light colored stripes, they have also been seen with an all over yellow color. Chinese Trumpetfish can grow to almost 32".
We recommend a minimum aquarium size of 150 gallons or larger for this species.
