Madagascar Flasher Wrasse
(Paracheilinus hemitaeniatus)
Paracheilinus Wrasse should be added to well established aquariums with plenty of room to swim. Plenty of rock work with cracks and crevices should be provided for resting and hiding. Paracheilinus Wrasse are also known as flasher Wrasse as they flash vibrant colors and their fins during matting season and if threatenedd. A diet of meaty foods along with Wrasse preperations should be provided. Flasher Wrasse are hardy, reef safe and relatively peaceful. They can be kept with other Wrasse and communal fish in appropriate sized aquarium. Provide a diet rich in meaty based foods. Wrasse are hermaphrodites meaning they start as juveniles/females but at some point in their life may turn into a male. Wrasse are jumpers, provide an aquarium with a tight fitting lid.
The Madagascar Flasher Wrasse are also sometimes known as Half Banded Flasher Wrasse. Not often seen in the aquarium trade. Madagascar Flasher Wrasse coloration may vary depending upon maturity, collection area or breeding period. Males are an orange color with blue horizontal stripes on its body and blue spots on their fins, while females are more subdued and lack the elongated dorsal fins.
