Torpedo Wrasse, Male
(Pseudocoris aequalis)
Pseudocoris Wrasse are known as Torpedo Wrasses due to the speed in which they navigate the aquarium. Provide an aquarium with ample swim room and rock work with plenty of crevices and caves for hiding and resting. Males tend to be more colorful and a bit larger than the females. Harems can be kept in the aquarium with 1 male and several females if added at the same time to a large enough aquarium. Pseudocoris are similar to Coris Wrasse but prefer consuming plankton out of the water column instead of the Benthic invertebrates the Coris Wrasse prefer. Feed a varied diet of plankton based foods multiple times daily. Wrasse are hermaphrodites meaning they start as juveniles/females but at some point in their life may turn into a male. Provide an aquarium with a tight fitting lid as Wrasse are jumpers.
The Torpedo Wrasse are also sometimes known as the Clearwater Wrasse. Not often seen in the aquarium trade. Coloration may vary depending upon maturity. Juveniles are an orange color with white stripes on its head as they begin to mature they develop a more dusky orange to a violet or blue green upper body mature males are blue with a white belly and thin dark stripes from behind its eyes to the gill cover. Torpedo Wrasse can grow to almost 6".
We recommend a minimum aquarium size of 50 gallons or larger for this species.
