Rainbow Slender Wrasse
(Suezichthys arquatus)
Provide an aquarium with ample rock work with plenty of cracks crevices and caves for hiding and resting. Suezichthys Wrasse are burrowers and need a deep sand bed to sleep and rest in. Harems can be kept in the aquarium with 1 male and several females if added at the same time. Suezichthys may be seen as a cleaner Wrasse, cleaning external parasites and other matter off of willing fish. Suezichthys are hermaphrodites, starting as juveniles/females and may turn into a male at some point in its life. They are carnivores and will consume invertebrates like marine worms, crustaceans, dove snails, limpets, fish larvae and squid. Provide a diet rich in meaty based foods as well as small amounts of seaweed for continued good health. Provide an aquarium with a tight fitting lid as Wrasse will jump.
The Rainbow Slender Wrasse are also sometimes known as the Painted Rainbow Wrasse. Occasionally seen in the aquarium trade. Color may vary depending on maturity of the fish. The Rainbow Slender Wrasse have a dark color with a light colored belly, ocelli on its dorsal fin. Juveniles and females may have an ocelli on its tail base and blue stripes on its body while males have a flag pattern on their tail. Rainbow Slender Wrasse can grow to a little over 5".
We recommend a minimum aquarium size of 50 gallons or larger for this species.
