Peacock Wrasse
(Xyrichthys pavo)
Xyrichthys Wrasse should be added to a well established aquarium. Provide plenty of rockwork with caves and crevices for hiding. A deep sandy bottom should also be provided as Xyrichthys Wrasse are burrowers, they bury themselves in the sand at night and if they are frightened. Xyrichthys Wrasse may not eat readily when first introduced to the aquarium. If seeing an unwilliness to eat add fortified live mysis or Brine shrimp to their carnivorous diet. Xyrichthys are not reef safe and will prey on hard shelled invertebrates. Provide an aquarium with a tight fitting lid as they may jump.
The Peacock Wrasse are also sometimes known as the Peacock Razor Wrasse. Occasionally seen in the aquarium trade. Juvenile Peacock Wrasse are a light brown to off white color, four thick brown stripes, two body stripes, a black eyespot on its dorsal. Adults are a blue to gray color with four thick dark stripes. Peacock Wrasse can grow to 16".
We recommend a minimum aquarium size of 150 gallons or larger for this species.
