Starry Night Octopus
(Callistoctopus luteus)
Callistoctopus Octopus should be added to well established aquariums with a sandy bottom and a tight fitting, weighted lid as they are very strong and capable of lifting the aquarium lid. Octopus mate only once, the males will deposit their sperm and then die. The females are able to hold sperm for a couple of months, however once they have cared for the eggs and babies hatch the female then dies as well. Octopus are able to quickly change color in order to camouflage themselves to avoid potential danger as well as secreting a dark ink cloud to escape. Provide a diet rich in small pieces of meaty foods. Callistoctopus octopuses are fascinating animals, but they are not typically suitable for reef aquariums due to their advanced care requirements. It's essential to avoid using copper-based treatments in a tank with invertebrates, as it can harm them. Always follow the recommended guidelines for medication use in marine aquariums.
