Neon Orange Hermit Crab
(Calcinus elegans)
Calcinus Crabs should be added to established aquariums with plenty of rockwork with, cracks, caves and crevices for grazing. Generally can be found in most reef areas. Calcinus crabs are good scavengers if insufficient algae exists supplement with algae wafers. Invertebrates do not tolerate copper medications. Calcinus Crabs are great for beginner hobbyists as they are easy to care for and peaceful tank mates. Be sure to provide a variety of different sized shells as crabs grow they will seek a new larger home.
The Neon Orange Hermit Crab is also known as the Electric Orange Hermit Crab. Neon Orange Hermit Crab are valuable additions to the aquarium as they will pick at algae which includes coralline and cyanobacteria. They also will crawl over corals which may disturb them but usually will not harm them. Commonly seen in the aquarium trade. Neon Orange Hermit Crabs are mainly black and have bright blue leg bands. Neon Orange Hermit Crabs can grow to 2".
