Halloween Hermit Crab
(Ciliopagurus strigatus)
Ciliopagurus Crabs should be added to established aquariums with plenty of rockwork with, cracks, caves and crevices for grazing. Generally can be found in most reef areas. Hermit crabs are good scavengers of bristle worms and leftover foods. However, may disturb small fish, shrimp or tubeworms. Invertebrates do not tolerate copper medications. Ciliopagurus Crabs are great for beginner hobbyists as they are easy to care for and not fussy about water quality. Be sure to provide a variety of different sized shells as crabs grow they will seek a new larger home.
The Halloween Hermit Crab is also known as the Striped or Orange Legged Hermit Crab. Halloween Hermit Crab are valuable additions to the larger fish aquariums as they will help to clean up left over fish foods. They also will crawl over corals which may disturb them but usually will not harm them. Not commonly seen in the aquarium trade. Halloween Hermit Crabs are quite lovely with bright orange and yellow leg bands. Halloween Hermit Crabs can grow to 2.5".
