Staghorn Antler Crab

(Manucomplanus varians w/ Janaria mirabilis)

Manucomplanus Crabs are generally found in mixed sand beds and rocky habitats from the central Gulf of California to Panama. They are herbivores consuming mainly algae. It's essential to avoid using copper-based treatments in a tank with invertebrates, as it can harm them. Always follow the recommended guidelines for medication use in marine aquariums.

Manucomplanus varians are also sometimes known as Staghorn Antler, Staghorn Hermit, Antler Hermit or Coralhouse Hermit Crabs. They are somewhat commonly seen in the aquarium trade. Staghorn Antler Crabs are quite interesting, instead of changing shells like other hermit crabs, they live and maintain the "hole" in the coral like shell to fit its body size. The crab may crawl out of the shell to trim the antler-like growths on the back of the shell. These crabs may not be able to right themselves if flipped over. They can grow up to 2".
