Hammerhead Crab
(Ixa edwardsi)
Ixa Crabs should be added to established aquariums with a thick sand bed with plenty of open areas as they become large. Generally are found in intertidal areas. Ixa crabs are good scavengers and may bury themselves in the sand when small. Invertebrates do not tolerate copper medications. Ixa Crabs are great for beginner hobbyists as they are easy to care for and peaceful tank mates.
Ixa edwardsi Crabs are also sometimes known as Hammerhead or Edward's Mithrax Crabs. They are not commonly seen in the aquarium trade. Hammerhead Crabs are typically a brownish to greenish coloration with a mottled pattern on their carapace. They may also have small, bristle-like hairs on their legs. They can grow up to 2".
