Horseshoe Crab
(Limulus polyphemus)
Limulus Crabs should be added to established aquariums with a thick sand bed with plenty of open areas as they become large. Generally are found in intertidal areas. Limulus crabs are good scavengers and may bury themselves in the sand when small. Invertebrates do not tolerate copper medications. Limulus Crabs are great for beginner hobbyists as they are easy to care for and peaceful tank mates.
The Horseshoe Crab is also known as the King Crab. Horseshoe crabs are more closely related to Scorpions and Spiders than they are Crabs. Horseshoe Crabs have not changed much in over 350 million years. Somewhat commonly seen in the aquarium trade. Horseshoe Crabs are an overall green to tan color. Female Horseshoe Crabs can grow to 24" with males obtaining smaller sizes.
