Threespot Damselfish
(Stegastes planifrons)
Stegastes Damselfish should be added to well established aquariums with plenty of room to swim. Plenty of algae covered rock work with caves and crevices should be provided for grazing and hiding. A diet of plant based foods which include Spirulina and Nori should be provided several times daily. These Damselfish can be highly aggressive and territoral careful consideration will need to be given before adding to the aquarium. Only one Stegastes should be added to the aquarium. House with larger fish that are not easily harassed.
The Threespot Damselfish are also known simply as Threespot Demoiselle. Rarely seen in the aquarium trade. Juvenile and adult Threespot Damselfish will have color differences. Juveniles are a beautiful bright yellow with small black spot on its caudal peduncle and a larger black spot on the middle of its body on the dorsal side. As the fish matures they will begin to fade to brown to gray color. They can grow to almost 4".
