Assorted Trapezia Crab

Trapezia Crabs are typically found in coral reef ecosystems, particularly on the surfaces of hard corals such as Acropora and Pocillopora. They live in the nooks and crevices of the coral branches, where they find shelter and protection. These crabs are considered to be symbiotic with the corals they inhabit. They have a mutualistic relationship with the coral, where they receive shelter and access to food in exchange for defending the coral from certain predators. Their diet primarily consists of detritus, plankton, and small organisms that they can capture using their specialized feeding appendages. Invertebrates do not tolerate copper medications.

Trapezia Crabs are also sometimes known a Guard as they may try to protect corals. They are usually not purposely collected however are most likely seen on corals. Trapezia Crabs are typically well-camouflaged to match the color and patterns of their host corals, which can range from bright colors to more subdued shades. They can grow to be a little over 1".
