Sand Sifting Sea Cucumber
(Holothuria scabra)
Cercodemas Cucumbers are seen in areas with good water flow such as wharves or wooden debris on the sea bed. Sea cucumbers are scavengers of small food items on the ocean floor, as well as plankton that may be floating in the water column. Algae, aquatic invertebrates, and waste particles make up their diet. It's essential to avoid using copper-based treatments in a tank with invertebrates, as it can harm them. Always follow the recommended guidelines for medication use in marine aquariums.
Holothuria scabra are also sometimes known as the Golden or Sand Sifting Sea Cucumber. They are generally not seen in the aquarium trade however aquacultured species are more likely seen. Sand Sifting Sea Cucumbers are generally a tan or light gray color. They can grow up to 6".
