Yellow Porites Coral
(Porites sp.)
Porites corals are found in various parts of the world, including the Caribbean Sea, the Indo-Pacific region, and the Red Sea. They inhabit both shallow and deeper reef environments, and some species can also be found in intertidal zones. Like other coral species, Porites corals have a symbiotic relationship with zooxanthellae algae. These algae reside within the coral's tissues and perform photosynthesis, providing the corals with energy and nutrients. However, Porites corals also have the ability to actively feed on particulate matter and plankton. Porites corals generally have a moderate to high tolerance to copper. However, it's important to maintain stable and appropriate copper levels in the aquarium, as high concentrations can still be harmful to corals and other tank inhabitants. Porites corals are generally considered relatively hardy and moderately easy to care for in aquariums. They prefer high lighting and strong water flow. Stable water parameters, including temperature, salinity, and nutrient levels, are important for their health and growth. Porites corals have a distinctive boulder-like appearance, with large, compact structures and irregular surfaces. Corals will benefit from the addition of Calcium, Strontium, Iodine, Magnesium and Trace Elements.
Porites Corals are also be known as Encrusting Corals. Commonly seen in the aquarium trade. They can come in various colors, including shades of brown, green, and even fluorescent hues under certain lighting conditions. Porites Corals will vary greatly in size and formation.
