Blue Spiny Lobster
(Panulirus versicolor)
Panulirus Lobsters inhabit rocky and coral reef environments in tropical and subtropical waters. They are often found hiding in crevices and holes in the reef during the day and are more active at night. Panulirus Lobsters are primarily scavengers and opportunistic feeders. They feed on a variety of items such as algae, detritus, small invertebrates, and carrion. Their diet can vary depending on what is available in their habitat. It's essential to avoid using copper-based treatments in a tank with invertebrates, as it can harm them. Always follow the recommended guidelines for medication use in marine aquariums.
Panulirus versicolor are also sometimes known as Blue or Purple Spiny Lobster or the Painted Crayfish. They are occasionally seen in the aquarium trade. They typically have a reddish-brown to orange background color with a pattern of white, yellow, and blue spots, lines, and markings on their exoskeleton. They can grow up to 10".
