Spurred Turban Snail
(Astralium calcar)
Astralium snails inhabit both tropical and temperate marine environments. They can be found in intertidal zones, subtidal areas, rocky shores, coral reefs, and seagrass beds. These snails are herbivores and primarily feed on algae and detritus. Astralium snails play a role in controlling algae populations in their habitat, which helps maintain ecological balance in marine environments. It's essential to avoid using copper-based treatments in a tank with invertebrates, as it can harm them. Always follow the recommended guidelines for medication use in marine aquariums.
Astralium Snails are also known as the Spurred Turban, Spiked Astralium or Ribbed Astralium Snail. They are not often seen in the aquarium trade. Their shell coloration can vary, but it is often brown, reddish-brown, or yellowish-brown, and the ribs may be a lighter or darker shade than the background color. The maximum size of Spurred Turban Snails is about 2".
