Bumble Bee Snail
(Engina mendicaria)
Engina Snails should be added to well established aquariums with plenty of rockwork and open areas as they help to clean away detritus, uneaten meaty foods as well as decomposing tank mates. If insufficient meaty foods are present supplement with the addition of mysis or brine shrimp, frozen meaty foods, flake or pellet foods meant for carnivores. Invertebrates do not tolerate copper medications and are sensitive to salinity changes. Engina Snails are a favorite of hobbyists and are great for beginner hobbyists as they are easy to care for, peaceful but are not reef safe.
The Bumble Bee Snail is also known simply as the Striped Engina Snail. Commonly seen in the aquarium trade. There are no distinguishing characteristics between male and females. Bumble Bee Snails are black with white to yellow colored stripes. Bumble Bee Snails can grow to 1".
