Tulip Snail

(Fasciolaria tulipa)

Fasciolaria Snails generally inhabit shallow waters, ranging from intertidal zones to subtidal depths. They are commonly found in sandy or muddy substrates along the coastlines of the western Atlantic, from North Carolina to Brazil. They will feed on other mollusks, including bivalves and gastropods. They use their strong proboscis, a muscular feeding organ, to drill into the shells of their prey and then feed on the soft tissues inside. It's essential to avoid using copper-based treatments in a tank with invertebrates, as it can harm them. Always follow the recommended guidelines for medication use in marine aquariums.

Fasciolaria tulipa are also sometimes known as Tulip or True Tulip Snails. They are frequently seen in the aquarium trade. The coloration of Fasciolaria tulipa can vary, but they are typically light to dark brown, with some individuals exhibiting reddish or purplish hues. The shells of tulip snails are elongated and have an elegant, spindle-shaped form. They can grow up to 8".
