Crown Conch
(Melongena corona)
They are generally found in warm, tropical waters, primarily in the western Atlantic Ocean, ranging from the southeastern United States to the Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico. They are generally found in sandy and muddy substrates, seagrass beds, and shallow coastal waters. They are carnivorous and feed on a variety of prey, including other gastropods, bivalves, and small crustaceans. They use a specialized proboscis to capture and consume their prey. It's essential to avoid using copper-based treatments in a tank with invertebrates, as it can harm them. Always follow the recommended guidelines for medication use in marine aquariums.
Melongena corona are also sometimes known as Crown or Corona Conchs. They are not often seen in the aquarium trade. Melongena corona Conchs have distinctive shells with a glossy surface. They are typically light to dark brown in color, often with a series of spiral ridges on their shells. They can grow up to 6".
