Margarite Snail
(Tegula sp.)
Tegula Snails are primarily found in rocky intertidal and subtidal habitats along the western coast of North and South America, from Alaska to Chile. They are commonly seen on rocky shores and can tolerate exposure to the air during low tide. They are herbivores and graze on algae that grow on rocky substrates. They use their radula, a specialized feeding organ covered in tiny teeth, to scrape algae from rocks. It's essential to avoid using copper-based treatments in a tank with invertebrates, as it can harm them. Always follow the recommended guidelines for medication use in marine aquariums.
Tectus fenestratus are also sometimes known as Turban Snails. They are frequently seen in the aquarium trade. The shells of these snails are generally conical and can have a range of colors, including shades of brown, black, and reddish-brown. The shells often have distinct growth lines and a distinctive pattern. They can grow up to 3".
