Yellow Lemon Sponge

(Leucetta sp.)

Leucetta Sponges are found in marine environments, particularly in coastal waters and shallow seas. They are often attached to hard substrates such as rocks, shells, and other surfaces. Some species may also be found in intertidal zones. Sponges are filter feeders and capture tiny food particles, including bacteria and small planktonic organisms, from the surrounding water. They do this by drawing water into their bodies through numerous tiny pores called ostia and filtering out the organic matter with specialized cells known as choanocytes. It's essential to avoid using copper-based treatments in a tank with invertebrates, as it can harm them. Always follow the recommended guidelines for medication use in marine aquariums.

Leucetta Sponges are usually just referred to Lemon Sponges. They are not commonly seen in the aquarium trade. They are generally yellow, tan, light brown or pale gray. Their size will depend on their environmental conditions.
