Colored Feather Sea Star
(Himerometra sp.)
Himeromera Sea Stars are found in various marine habitats, including coral reefs, rocky substrates, and seagrass meadows. They attach themselves to the substrate using their cirri (short, stalk-like structures) or by clinging onto corals or other structures. Himerometra Sea Stars are filter feeders. They use their feather-like arms to create currents that bring plankton and other small particles towards their mouth located on the upper surface of the calyx. Tube feet on their arms help direct the food particles towards the mouth. Himerometra Sea Stars contribute to marine biodiversity by providing habitat and shelter for various small organisms. It's essential to avoid using copper-based treatments in a tank with invertebrates, as it can harm them. Always follow the recommended guidelines for medication use in marine aquariums.
Himerometra Sea Stars are also sometimes known as Feather Stars or Feather Sea Stars. They are not often seen in the aquarium trade. Usually a reddish brown, maroon, green, yellow or pale brown. They can grow up to 8".
