Pentaceraster Sea Stars are commonly found in the Indo-Pacific region, including the western Pacific Ocean and the Indian Ocean. They inhabit a variety of marine environments, including coral reefs, rocky areas, and sandy seabed's. They are slow-moving sea stars that often feed on detritus and small invertebrates found in the sandy substrate. They use their tube feet to sift through the sand in search of prey, which includes tiny crustaceans and organic matter. Pentaceraster cumingi Sea Stars are also sometimes known as Cortez or Cuming's Sea Star. They are commonly not collected in the aquarium trade. Cortez Sea Stars color can vary but they are usually brown, reddish brown or greenish brown with a mottled or speckled appearance. They can grow up to 8".
