African Red Tip Sea Star

Protoreaster Sea Star should be added to well established aquariums with a deep bed of sand and plenty of open area. Protoreaster Sea Star are not considered to be reef safe as they may attempt to consume Polyps. Invertebrates do not tolerate copper medications and are sensitive to water parameter changes. Protoreaster Sea Star not reef safe as they may disturb anemones, gorgonians, soft corals stony coral, sponges, clams, urchins turbeworms and small unaware fish.
The African Red Tip Sea Star is also known as the Red Spine or Red Knob Sea Star. Commonly seen in the aquarium trade. African Red Tip Sea Stars have a tan colored base with bright red intricate patterns as well as pointy red protrusions. Be sure not to expose the African Red Tip Sea Star to air. There are no distinguishing characteristics between males and females. African Red Tip Sea Stars can grow to 12".
